Power, Knowing, and the Tribe

In talking shop (as an educator), I reflect on formative assessments, summative assessments, leadership, proficiency and the commerce of knowledge and information. I explore my relationship to knowing and how (and when) I share knowing as my love language. I talk about feeling men and about feelers' reaction to me (the 8 and Te part of me). Finally, I talk about black literacies and the gift of being in space with other black women. 

Passion, Distraction and the Big

This reflection ends with the realization that my business is not my big (not my master-plan) It is in route to it.  To get to this breakthrough, I talk about passion as a distraction.  I also talk about making smaller, passionless moves to get to the big.  Do know that there are a number of unrelated rabbit holes in this reflection: a) establishing context as functional versus establishing it as excessive; b) growing into a healthy heart orientation versus an unhealthy one; c) thinking for efficiency versus thinking for effectiveness; d) an ENTJ living in action versus an INTJ living in contemplation; e) recognizing myself as three parts (ego, heart and mind); and f) negotiating, sharing and leveraging blackness with a student, his parent and his principal.

Passion

This reflection ends with a powerful conversation about passion and the consequences of not experiencing one's passion on a daily basis.  The impetus to this discussion was a random conversation I had with an attorney whose great day translated into a distinct (and noticeable) demeanor.  The energy on this attorney was instructional as it challenged me to think about my deepest passion and how my job does (or does not) allow me to experience such passion.  It is important to note that I ramble extensively in the first half of this reflection.  Jumping from one disparate point to the next, the first part of this episode finds me talking about the podcast and an earlier episode; about grades, late work, critical thinking, and learning; about race and "the race card"; and about language, consciousness and time. 

Unhealthy

In this reflection I talk about groupthink (its toxic nature); the unhealthy 2 (in the Enneagram system); disturbed characters andneuroticism; and the unhealthy care-work of some parents.

Space Time

The major theme in this reflection is about the block universe (as a concept) and connecting it to space-time.  I conclude with a discussion about the self as different events in the block-- equally real, equally important, and equally accessible.  I challenge the listener to not consider the self as three dimensional (influenced by only space) but as four dimensional (influenced by space AND time).  Points of Randomness: Thinking and feeling as a continuum (and not as distinctions from each other); Si and Fe as shadow functions; ENTJ vs INTJ; Ni/Si as functions relating to time and NE/SE functions relating to space (or vice versa); Working out; and Karaoke.

A Theory of Self

Fear and Lack

This reflection ends with a realization that fear and sense of lack are guiding some of my survival choices.  Along the way, I talk about conflicting principles and values.  Randomness:  words, freestyling, spirituality, longsuffering, and tertiary FI.

White Space

This reflection unpacks a conversation I had with a stranger (who also happened to be white, male, progressive and an ENFJ).  The main takeaway is in the way whiteness recreates itself and the embedded scripts that playout regardless of the players or the environment.  

A Lesson of Self

This reflection is ultimately about embracing my self worth when loving someone who is controlling and manipulative. [This is a continued conversation about my dad who has Stage 4 cancer.]

Owning Your Truth

This reflection ends with a conversation about knowing and owning your truth especially when contending with competing forces in the outer world. Along the way, I talk about four themes: 1) responding to an invitation from my unhealthy father; 2) sociology content parked and then resurrected ; 3) merging my two podcasts (and my two worlds) ; and 4) controlling the sensory world. I have an Fi (introverted feeling) breakthrough at the end so it does get a little emotional.
